PELITA HATI’S HOUSE OF ART.
It is with great pleasure that Pelita Hati, House of Art presents Amir Zainorin’s first solo exhibition in his home country.
A newcomer to the Malaysian art scene, Amir nevertheless has been a full time artist for the past 12 years. He has exhibited in 3 other solo exhibitions abroad and has made a name in Denmark where he now resides.
Amir’s art depicts objects or scenes from everyday life and employs techniques of commercial art and popular illustration that is characteristic of pop art. His works touches many issues, from culture to social commentary and politics. Using media and advertising art styles to bring art closer to real life, his painting and collages is intended to provoke thought and invite dialog.
Amir chooses subject matter that fascinates him. This has challenged him to create original pop art which is unique. Although they are characterized by an unapologetic decorativeness which is typical of pop art, Amir’s passion and acquired skill that go into his painting and collages makes his work both creative and witty.
Pop art is fast gaining popularity in Malaysia as seen by the increasing number of practitioners of this art form. As Malaysia celebrates its 50 years of independence this year, it is evident that pop art is here to stay. Amir’s works are refreshing and timely.
